Look for box relaxers (no lye). They are cheap and easy to use at home, just MAKE SURE THAT YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! If used improperly you could chemically burn your scalp, and your hair will fall out. Relaxers chemically straighten the roots of the hair so that it stays straight, even wet. A few names I've used are Olive Oil, TCB Naturals, and Soft & Beautiful. If you've got soft fragile hair, get a mild relaxer. You probably should ask a hair stylist before you use it so you don't mess up. =0)

No way!! I used to do that all up until now, because 1, the lotion is kind of still wet in your hair and has potential to burn your hair rather than protect it. Not good. And 2 serum is WAY better because it does the job, doesnt burn your hair, and gives you just the right amount of shine, not too greasy or dry :) Heat protectant spray is great too, because it really does protect, but serum, like biosilk or CHI infusion, is way better. I own the serum, the spray and lotions, so i know!!

Shebababy1 I know for sure you have to use a protective type of lotion or grease before flat ironing permed hair to avoid breakage and splitting from the heat. That's why I avoid heat after touch ups.

where are you located?
aqua2291 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
u can but i wudnt use it cuz its much more easier to put too much product on. instead try a heat protectant spray, flat ironing cream or serum. i love serum - a little goes a long way and it just equals SHINE. too much serum makes hair greasy though so beware.

you should ALWAYS use some kind of heat protectant before you heat style... right now I'm using Redken Extreme Iron Repair.

I HAVE A QUESTION...Do you think putting moisturizing lotion (no particular kind) on hair before flatironing is good??
